About Chef Mikey

Hailing from Washington D.C., Mikey grew up loving food and cooking. In the fall of 2007, he graduated cum laude from The Art Institute of Washington with a degree in Culinary Arts. Pursuing a passion for ice cream and desserts, Mikey worked as Executive Chef of Gifford′s Ice Cream Company in Silver Spring, Maryland and also attended the Penn State Ice Cream short course. During this time, Mikey began work on a restaurant concept based on marketing ice cream exclusively to adults, but without funding, tried to pursue other options. After a series of fateful coincidences, Mikey was cast as a contestant on NBC′s restaurant series, The Chopping Block. Although representing "front of house" in the show, Mikey's talents and experiences go beyond serving, and include working "back of house" as well as personal chef, chef instructor, party planner, and small events catering.

Currently Mikey teaches cooking classes at the Young Chefs Academy in Rockville, Maryland, however still pursues opening his own restaurant.
